About the practice

Understanding the child, not only the challenge.

Getting to know each child's experiences, strengths and needs is an important starting point for meaningful support.

A child-centred perspective

Every child experiences the world differently.

Children can experience difficulties with learning, emotions, relationships or changes in their environment. These challenges do not always have a single cause, and the same difficulty can affect different children in different ways.

Educational psychology can help families explore what may be contributing to a concern, recognise a child's strengths and consider the support that may be appropriate.

The aim is to approach each situation with care and curiosity, taking the child's individual circumstances into account rather than assuming that one approach will suit everyone.

The approach

Careful listening. Thoughtful support.

Building an understanding of what a child may be experiencing and identifying practical ways forward.

Individual understanding

Each child's experiences, development, relationships and environment deserve consideration.

Family involvement

Parents and caregivers can provide important insight and help support progress beyond sessions.

Practical direction

Where appropriate, the process can help clarify next steps and identify areas where additional support may help.

A child's behaviour and learning are part of a bigger story. Taking time to understand that story can make a difference.
